Miss Sylvia Homan, a resident of Alton, all her life, died Saturday evening, January 11, at her home after a few hours illness. She was taken ill about noon with the Saturday housework and passed on some hours later without regaining consciousness from the stroke which caused her death.

Sylvia was born December 8, 1902 and had reached the age of 60 at the time of her passing. Her parents were early residents here and she was born in the same house in which she died and lived all her life.

She was one of eight children of whom three survive: Charles Homan of Slayton, Minnesota, Mrs. Joe (Celeste) Mousel of Le Mars; and her lifetime companion, Miss Hilda. She was preceded in death by a sister, Rose, in infancy; brothers, Joe in 1949, Frank and Ben.

Rosary was said at the home and funeral services were at St. Mary’s Catholic Church Tuesday morning, January 14, with burial in the parish cemetery. Rt. Reverend Msgr. Reising officiated and pallbearers were nephews; Leland Mousel of Remsen, Wayne Mousel of Windam, Minnesota; Marcel and Everett Homan of Slayton, Minnesota; Leonard Homan, Sioux City and Gerald Homan, Creighton, Nebraska.

Dinner for relatives was held after the service at her life-time home.

Present from a distance were Messrs. And Mesdames Charles Homan, Marcel Homan, Everett Homan of Slayton, Wayne Mousel of Windom, Minnesota; Leonard and Gerald Homan; Mrs. Celeste Mousel and Marlene, Miss Anna Harens, Dr. and Mrs. O’Toole, all of Le Mars; Mrs. Rose Mousel, Sioux City; Messrs. and Mesdames Don Homan, Worthington, Minnesota, Merlin Mousel, Leeds, Lee Mousel, Remsen, Ed Schneider, Paulina, Gene Kiefer, Remsen, Mrs. Ben Homan, sister-in-law of Grand Forks, North Dakota was unable to attend.

Many from Anton and neighboring towns came to say their respects and extend sympathy.
