Gordon Holzman, Alton, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2002, at his home in Alton.

A funeral service was held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, June 22, 2002 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton, Iowa. Reverend James Tigges and Msgr. Nicholas J. Ruba officiated. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Alton under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen, Iowa.

Gordon Holzman was born on December 19, 1929 at rural Le Mars, Iowa, the son of Frank and Josephine (Kemp) Holzman.

Gordon was raised in the rural Le Mars are and graduated from St. Joseph’s Catholic School in Le Mars in 1947. He was then a farm laborer in the Le Mars area. On February 14, 1950 he married Marian Vaske at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen. They farmed near Le Mars until 1961 when they moved to a farm near Alton. He retired and they moved into Alton in the spring of 1992. He worked for ASCS Office at Orange City for many years.

Survivors are his wife Marian of Alton, Iowa; three sons and their wives, Gary and Eileen of Remsen, Iowa, David and Irene of Pensacola, Florida, Kevin and Mary of Alton, Iowa; four daughters and their husbands, Deb and Paul Dunn of Lawton, Iowa, Jane and Dave List of Granville, Iowa, Beth and Mike Larson, Anita and Bob Finger all of Omaha, Nebraska; 25 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 4 Brothers: Clayton and his wife Lois of Le Mars, Roger of Houston, Texas, Marv and his wife Sharri of Riverside, California, Leon and his wife Nancy of Le Mars, Iowa; 4 sisters: Joanne and Her husband Leonard Anthony of Le Mars, Iowa, Elaine and her husband Bill Pew of San Marcos, California, Edna Holzman and her friend Dick Granham of Omaha, Nebraska, Betty and her husband Roger Curry of Saratoga, California; Numerous nieces and nephews.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Church Choir, he was commissioned as a Eucharistic Minister on March 15, 1970, Knights of Columbus. He was very active in the church and also the community. Gordon was a cancer survivor for 22 years.

He was preceded by: parents; one son, James; one brother, Stanley; one sister, Marian and her husband.
