Eulberg, J. Adam born 1830 died 1915 buried St. Mary’s cemetery at Alton IA, as listed in the Sioux County IA cemetery index.

Adam Eulberg Sr. at his home here in Alton passed away Christmas Day in the eighty fifth year. He had resided in Sioux county for over 30 years . Bright’s disease from which Mr. Eulberg had been suffering for four moths was the cause of death. For many weekshe had been slowly sinking and death was a tany time expected.

He came to the United States in 1864, having been born in Niedersein, Councel Walmerof, Province of Nassau, Germany, in the year 1830 coming to Sioux county in March 1885. For many years hehad lived the life of the retired farmer in Alton, but in earlier days he was active and prominent in water power, well building and more recently, farming. Mr. Eulberg was a devout Catholic belonging to St. Mary’s parish here. During the early days of his life in the US he was drafted for service in the union army during the civil war but secured a substitute by paying him $1000. It turned out that the substitute was not needed for actual service.

In 1856 he married Miss Katherine Kurtenacker at Bellevue and to them six children were born, three of whom are now living, Karl Eulberg, Mrs. B. H. Determan of Early and Mrs. H. Jost of Presho SD. In 1870, after the death of his first wife, Mr. Eulberg was married to Miss Katharina Neuroth at Bellevue and 13 children came to them, four dying in infancy. He leaves his wife and their nine children, John of Harrisburg, RO, Christ of Wakita OK, Peter, Miss Maria and Joseph of Alton, William of Meford, OK, Adam of Brawloy CA, Henry of Melvin and Herman of Dupree SD.

The funeral was held Tuesday morning from St. Mary’s church, Very Rev. F. J. Brune officiating. Interment took place at St. Mary’s cemetery. Those present from away were: Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Determan, Early; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Eulberg, Dell Rapids, SD; and the sond, Ed and Herman, Dell Rapids, SD; Peter, Volin SD; Chris Neuroth and son, Peter, Haverhill; John Neuroth and son Christ, Adrian MN; Mr. and Mrs. Peter Neuroth, Beresford SD.; John Schmidt Dell Rapids SD; Mrs. Henry Pins Sioux Falls SD; Miss Laura Schnee Minneapolis; James Ronan, Beresford SD; Miss Mary Neuroth, Beresford SD; Mr. and Mrs. Tony Neuroth Granville, Mr. and Mrs. Nic Neuroth Granville, Miss Kate Eulberg Granville. All the children visited their father during his illness with the exception of John C., Herman and Mrs. H. Jost; William had returned home before his father’s death and could not return for the funeral.
