From the Rock Valley Bee, December 21, 1923:

FORMER RESIDENT DIES FROM RESULT OF BURNS

The following from the Clayton County Messenger gives an account of the accidental death of Mrs. Frank Liddy, a former resident of this vicinity, who died at her home in Elkader, Iowa, as the result of burns received while rendering lard:

"The entire community sorrows with Frank Liddy and family over the pathetic death of wife and mother, caused from burns received while rendering lard.

"Margaret Moore was born June 27, 1858, at Terra Haide [Terre Haute?], Indiana, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edw. Moore. She was united in marriage with Frank Liddy at Dubuque, Iowa, on Feb. 8, 1890, and to this union six children were born, one passing away in infancy. Those left to mourn besides the husband are: Jerry, of Elkader; Mrs. Roy Welsh, of Elkader; Mrs. Pat Rafins[?], of Wadena; Mrs. James Rogers, of Britt, Iowa; and Ella at home. Besides these she leaves one sister, Mrs. Dan Tully, of Chicago. One brother, of Oakland, California, preceded her in death six weeks ago.

"Following their marriage in Dubuque, Mr. and Mrs. Liddy moved to Rock Valley, Iowa, where they lived for twelve years, after which they came to Elkader, which has been their home since.

"Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Tuesday, Dec. 11, with Rev. Taken, Rev. Heatherington, of Volga, and Rev. Horsefield officiating. Interment was made in St. Joseph's Cemetery."
