Bernard Eugene "Bernie" Visser

    Bernard Eugene "Bernie" Visser, son of Bert and Elizabeth (Van Oort) Visser, was born on October 4, 1944 in Orange City, IA. He spent his youth at both Hull and Sanborn, IA. Bernie received his education from Sanborn Christian, Hull Christian grade Schools and Hull Western Christian High School.
    On December 14, 1961, Bernie was united in marriage to Judy Van Beek at Rock Valley, IA. To this union four children were born: Karen, Jeff, Deb, and Joel.
    Bernie worked for several years as a heavy equipment operator with Visser Brothers Excavating of Sanborn, IA, taking great pride in the work he did on the caterpillar. He thoroughly enjoyed seeing a newly-graded yard or field that was perfectly level, and knowing he had a huge hand in that outcome. Grueling as the hours or weather may have gotten, he loved what he did, and he was good at it...the perfect combination. In later years, Bernie was employed with Vander Haag's, Inc., overseeing several building projects for that company. He remained in this position until his retirement in 2009.
    Even a busy guy can manage to find some down-time now and then, and Bernie made sure his included some fishing and spending time at their trailer at Lake Shetek in southern Minnesota. Bernie was a member of the Christian Reformed Church at Sanborn.
    On Wednesday, April 26, 2017, Bernie passed from this life at the age of 72. Preceding him in death were his parents, Bert and Elizabeth; and three brothers: Ivan, John, and Marvin Visser.
    Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judy of Sanborn, IA; his children and their spouses: Karen and her husband, Roy Christoffels of Manhattan, MT, Jeff and his wife, Dee Visser of Chattanooga, TN, Deb and her husband, Chad Mac Kenzie of Oshkosh, WI, and Joel and his wife, Tasha Visser of Sanborn, IA; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Ed and his wife, Gertie Visser of Sanborn, IA; other relatives and many friends.
