Mark Wayne Wilkens 61 completed his journey in this life on Friday, March 17, 2017 in Grandville, Michigan after a fight with cancer. Most beloved husband of Carmen L. Nochera-Wilkens. Sadly mourned by his family and friends.
 
Survivors include his wife Carmen L. Nochera-Wilkens; his brothers, James, Joel, and Kyle; his sister, Belva, with whom he was very close; and also the many others sharing in this loss are his nieces, nephews, and friends of many years.
 
Mark grew up in rural Hawarden, Iowa where he attended West Sioux Community Schools. At 17 years of age, he obtained his pilot’s license. He liked simple pleasures in life such as reading, fishing, hunting, traveling but most of all he had and shared a love and passion for art. He later went to College to study Fine Arts, which was very dear to his heart. While at University of South Dakota in Vermillion, he had the opportunity to study and work with renowned artist Oscar Howe. He often traveled to numerous museums to continue learning about art and appreciate other’s masterpieces.
 
Memorial Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2017 at the Peace Lutheran Church rural Sioux Center, Iowa. Interment will follow in the Grace Hill Cemetery at Hawarden, Iowa. A Prayer Service will be at 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2017 at the Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden, Iowa. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com. The Porter Funeral Home in Hawarden is assisting the family.
