Carl WIssink Rites Fri.; May 25 At Orange City
Carl WIssink, 88, well known former resident here, died at a convalescent home in Ashton Tuesday after an illness of many months. Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:30 from the First Reformed church in Orange City. Mr. Wissink, who came to the Alton vicinity as a youth from the Netherlands and by industry and thrift acquired a fine farm just east of Alton, now occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cambier, lived in Alton after retiring from the farm, then moved to Orange City where he and his wife lived until the death of Mrs. Wissink, nee Scholten some years ago. He made several trips to his ancestral home in Holland. For several years he resided at the Pioneer Home in Orange City until last fall when he went to the home at Ashton. Surviving are two sons, Dr. Gerrit of Mankato, Minn., and Rev. Charles of Milwaukee.

Note: From an ancestry.com report (done by others) Karel ‘Carl’ Wissink born 14 Feb 1867 Zutphen Gelderland Netherlands died 22 May 1956 Buried in Nassau Twp Cemtery Alton IA. He was the son of Gerrit Wissink 1827-1908 and Hendrika Klein Kraanenberg 1831-1899. He was married to Mina Geertruida Scholten 25 Sep 1864 Zutphen Neth., died 20 Nov 1950 Alton IA. They had children: Gerrit Martinus Wissink 1892-1895, Bennie 1895-1900, Hendrieka Gerritje Wissink 1896-1901, Anna Maria Wissink 1899-1906, Dr. Gerrit Martinus Wissink 1903-1976 and Rev. Charles Bernard Wissink 1907-1999. A series of tragic events took the lives of several of their young children.
