DEATH CLAIMS MRS. VOVERKA

Former Hawarden Resident Passes Away Saturday in Le Mars

Mrs. Clara Ellen Voverka, former resident of Hawarden, of Le Mars passed away at the Sacred Heart Hospital in that city Saturday following an illness of a week’s duration.

Funeral services were held in the First Baptist Church in Le Mars at 2:30 Monday afternoon with the Rev. S. A. Jones in charge. Interment was made in the Ireton cemetery.

Clara Ellen Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Smith, was born in Ashland, Ohio, Jan. 11, 1866, and passed away in Le Mars Feb. 21, 1942, having attained the age of 76 years, 1 month and 10 days. In early life she was united in marriage with David Crouse, who passed away in 1904. In 1914 she was married to Frank Voverka and for one year following this marriage she lived at Ireton. She then came to Hawarden to make her home. Mr. Voverka died in 1921. She continued to make her home in Hawarden for a time following his death but for past 10 years she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Ross Day, in Le Mars.

She leaves to mourn her departure one daughter, Mrs. Day of Le Mars; three step-daughters, Mrs. Day of Le Mars; three step-daughters, Mrs. John Warner of Ireton and Mrs. Roscoe Dick and Mrs. Ira Van Buskirk of Hawarden; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Rickard of Sioux City; Mrs. Jane Weaver of Milaca, Minn.; and Mrs. Kate Crouse f Hawarden; one brother George Smith of Paulina. There are also three grandsons, Ivan Day of Spokane, Wash., and Lyle and Lowell Day of Le Mars, and one great-granddaughter, Corinne Anna Day of Le Mars.

Mrs. Voverka was a devoted Christian woman and a member of the Baptist church, the W. C. T. U., and other organizations of the church and community. She was faithful to her church to the last, attending the services whenever her health permitted. Her uplifting influence will live on in the hearts of her loved ones.

Relatives from Hawarden and Ieton who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Harley Brown and daughter, Mrs. Jack Bushby, Mrs. George Crouse, Mrs. John Warner, Mrs. Ira Van Buskirk and Roscoe Dick.
