Marvan Vanden Brink age 78 of Boyden, IA died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center, IA.
 
    
     Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Wednesday April 26th, 2017 at Tabernacle Baptist Church in George, IA with Pastor Bryan Anderson, officiating. Burial will follow at the Sheridan Township Cemetery in Boyden.
 
     Visitation will be Tuesday, April 25th from 3:00 to 7:00 PM with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Tabernacle Baptist Church in George.

     Marvan Vanden Brink was born in rural Boyden, IA on April 27, 1938, the son of Arthur and Jacoba (VanderSpoel) Vanden Brink. He graduated from Hospers High School in 1956. Marv went to work for the DeStigter Brothers construction company and was on the crew that built the Elementary School in George. Marv was then drafted into the United States Army in September of 1961 and was honorably discharged in October of 1963. He was stationed in Killeen, TX. On December 9, 1961, before leaving for basic training, he was united in marriage to Phyllis DeBerg. Following Marv’s military service the young couple made their home in Boyden, IA. They lived their entire married lives in Boyden. Marv was the second full time employee hired by Kenneth Mulder at Demco and worked there for over 50 years. Along with working full time, Marvan stayed busy doing many other things. He and Phyllis bought the lunch stand from Harry and Gert Faber and served concessions at the ball diamond for 20 summers. Their business was known as Van's Lunch and they catered lunch at auctions for 34 years. He remodeled nine homes in Boyden and five in other areas. He did electrical work for Don Klein Sr. on the “Don Robert” riverboat at the Marina in Sioux City and they had the privilege of spending three days traveling down the Missouri River in 1980. In 1983 Marv built a bridge with a 70-foot span at the sandpit north of Boyden, which is now known as the Bruce Schoemaker Recreational Area. He also formed the landscaping at the Otter Valley Golf Course. Marv will be remembered for his love of family. He was very dedicated to his family and to his work. He was a humble and hardworking man. This past Saturday Marvan Vanden Brink passed away at Sioux Center Health in Sioux Center at the age of 78. He will be greatly missed.
 
     He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Vanden Brink; sons, Alan Vanden Brink of Boyden, IA, Tim (Rosemary) Vanden Brink of George, IA, Roger, (Deborah) Vanden Brink of Sanborn, IA; daughter, Elon Vanden Brink of Emerald Isle, NC; son, Eldon, (Anita) Vanden Brink of Hull, IA; 16 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brothers, Arlyn (Henrietta) Vanden Brink and Theodore Vanden Brink all of Hospers, IA; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
