Mr. Darwin Zeutenhorst, age 82, of Orange City, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017, at the Happy Siesta Care Center in Remsen.

There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, May 17, at 10:30am, at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Mark Haverdink will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a family prayer service on Wednesday, at 9:30am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Tuesday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:30pm, at the funeral home.

Darwin Lee was born on April 19, 1935, in Ireton, the son of Dick and Minnie (Draayer) Zeutenhorst. He was raised at Ireton and Orange City, where he graduated from the public high school.

On June 28, 1956, he married Joan Muilenburg at the First Reformed Church in Orange City. They made their home in Orange City, where he was employed in the maintenance departments of the Maurice-Orange City Schools and the Orange City Municipal Hospital.

In February of this year, he became a resident of Happy Siesta.

Darwin was a member of the First Reformed Church and a longtime member of the Raider Rooters at Northwestern College in Orange City. He enjoyed farming, fishing, and collecting toy tractors.

Survivors include his wife of more than sixty years; a son and his wife, Darlo and Nancy Zeutenhorst; and a daughter and her husband, Julie and Eric Gober, all of Orange City; eight grandchildren, Grant Zeutenhorst, and his wife, Kate; Judi Zeutenhorst, Bruce Zeutenhorst, and his wife, Jenny; Philip Zeutenhorst, and his wife, Helen, Jason Zeutenhorst, and his wife, Kelly; Brittany Albert,; Breanne Gober; and Brooklynne Gober; six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Wanda Zeutenhorst; a brother-in-law, Robert Puff, Sr., two step-sisters, Shirley Mouw and Lila, and her husband, George Boerhave; and Joan’s family, a sister and her husband, Linda and Douglas Van Berkum; and a sister-in-law, Alyda Muilenburg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Zeutenhorst; a brother, Marvin Zeutenhorst; a sister, Harriet Puff; a brother-in-law Dwaine Muilenburg; a step-brother-in-law, Clifford Mouw; and a step-sister and her husband, Aleene and Preston Wobbema.

Memorials may be directed to Project 78 at the First Reformed Church.
