Mathilda Elsie Betty (Schmidt) Hinsch, 88, of George died Saturday, January 5, at Merrill Pioneer Community Hospital in Rock Rapids.

Funeral services were 3 P.M. Monday, January 7 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids. The Reverend Michelle Rowell officiated.

Mrs. Hinsch was born November 11, 1913, in Sioux County, the daughter of Henry P. and Anna (Schuett) Schmidt. She attended country school. As a young lady, she was employed in restaurants in Hull. She married Louis Hinsch on February 10, 1935, in Rock Rapids. They farmed in the Rock Rapids and George areas. Mr. Hinsch died in July 1969.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of George. She has been a resident of Rock Rapids Health Center since October 1994. She enjoyed raising chickens, gardening and quilting.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Kenneth and Elaine Hinsch of George; a daughter and her husband, Marla and Norman Woelber of Spencer; grandchildren, Bradley and his wife, Susan Hinsch, Karmen Woelber, Scott and his wife, Kristine Woelber, Alvin and his wife, Luella Smidstra; seven great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Vernon and Beverly Schmidt of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; a brother-in-law and his wife, Arnold and Helen Behrens of George; and two sisters, Hilda Schmidt of Magnolia, Minnesota, and Mildred Schmidt of Weeping Water, Nebraska.

She also was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Pamela Smidstra; three brothers, Albert, Elmer and Arthur Schmidt; a sister, Henrietta Behrens; and four infant brothers.
