Mrs. Nic (Rose) Becker, age 90, of Hospers died Saturday, May 31,1997 at the Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 3 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Hospers. Rev. James Tigges and Rev. Dennis Becker concelebrated. Burial was at St. Anthony's Cemetery in Hospers under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home, Remsen.

Rose was born July 30,1906 at rural Alton, the daughter of Matt and Elizabeth (Kellen) Hoffman. When she was a young child she moved with her parents to near Hospers where she was raised and attendedSt. Anthony's School. She married Nic Becker on Nov. 27, 1928 at Hospers. They farmed near Hospers until1956 when they retired and moved into Hospers. Mr. Becker died April, 1965.
Rose entered the Happy Siesta Nursing Home in Remsen on July 21,1995.Mrs. Becker was a member of St.Anthony's Catholic Church, the Church Guild, Christian Mothers, all of Hospers and Catholic Daughters of America, Sheldon.

She is survived by three sons and their wives, Vincent and Lorraine of Bancroft, Lloyd and Lorraine of Granville and Donald and Georgia of Hospers; two daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Rosella) Vortherms of Paullina and Bernice and her husband Gordon Schneider of Granville; 27 grandchildren; 40 greatgrandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Art (Emma) Blocker of Algona and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Al (Rose) Hoffman of Hospers. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter Florence in infancy; twograndchildren, lames and Carol Vortherms both in infancy; two sons-inlaw, Arnold Vortherms and DanLechtenberg; four brothers, Mike, Nick,John and Aloys Hoffman; and two sisters, Mrs. Ted (Mary) Klein and Mrs. William (Clara) Klein.
