Inwood, IA: Roger Halma, 90, of Inwood, Iowa, died Thursday, March 23, 2017, at Fellowship Village in Inwood. Funeral services will be Tuesday, March 28, at 10:30 AM at Inwood Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Sam Krikke officiating. Burial will follow at Richland Cemetery of Inwood. Visitation, with the family present, will be Monday, March 27, from 6:00-7:30 PM at Inwood CRC. Memorials may be given to Inwood Christian School or Fellowship Village of Inwood. 
 
Roger Halma was born June 26, 1926, to Harry and Hilda (Miedema) Halma at a farm home near Hawarden, Iowa. He was the fifth boy in a family of ten. He grew up in the Rock Valley, Iowa area where he attended Rock Valley Christian School. He started working at the age of 5, herding cows and helping other farmers. At the age of 16, he began working at John Morrell.
 
He married June Hetlet on December 7, 1948, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church near Inwood. They made their home in the Inwood area where Roger farmed and also worked at Kolman Athey in Sioux Falls, South Dakota for 21 years. Roger was a long-time member of Inwood Christian Reformed Church. He served as elder and deacon, was active in the Men’s Society, Adult Sunday School, and Senior Fellowship.
 
Family and friends will always remember Roger for his strong faith and calm, quiet manner. He was a kind, soft spoken man with a big heart. He never complained, was always happy, and whistled everywhere he went.
 
 Grateful for having shared his life are his 5 children, Dianne (Nick) Saavedra of Oxnard, California, Daryl (Carla) Halma of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Pam (Rick) Van Heerde of Colton, South Dakota, Terry Halma, and Sue (Curt) Faber, both of Inwood; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence (Connie) Halma, of Inwood; and 3 sisters, Freida Veldkamp of Escondido, California, Albertha Johnson of Spearfish, South Dakota, and Rena (Don) Cannegieter of Rock Valley, Iowa.
 
Roger was preceded in death by his wife, June; daughter, Evelyn Rose; parents, Harry and Hilda; and 5 brothers, George, Charlie, Martin, John, and Sam.
