Mr. John Brooks, age 75, of Orange City, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017, at the Orange City Area Health System.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, March 28, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City. The Rev Mark Haverdink and the Rev. John Klompien will officiate. Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Monday, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm, at the funeral home.

Following the funeral service, relatives and friends are invited to join the family at P’s Pizza House in the Holland Plaza on east Highway 10 in Orange City, for a celebration of John’s life.

John Michael was born on July 22, 1941, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, the son of Millard Merle and Marie (McFarland) Brooks. He grew up and graduated from high school in Garner, Iowa.

On August 11, 1982, he married Carol Beth (DeJong) Kreykes in Memphis, Tennessee. He was previously married to Karen Larkin.

John lived in several Midwestern cities, including Quincy, Illinois. In December 2015, he and Carol moved to Orange City.

For most of his career, John worked in the car business. During retirement, he made deliveries for the Orange City Floral Company.

John loved to ride motorcycles, camp, visit the gun range, go Irish road bowling, and root for his favorites teams, the Iowa State Cyclones and Chicago Cubs. He loved his family more than anything and spent as much time as he could with them. He lived his favorite saying, “Every day’s a holiday and every night’s a party.”

In addition to his wife, Carol, John is survived by daughter, Kirstie Stifel, and her children, Madison, Morgan, and Coleson; son, Michael Brooks, his wife Sara, and their daughter Reagan; daughter, Sarah Reines, her husband Daniel, and their children Mia, Max, and Lilah Rose; and daughter, Susan Christopherson, her husband Kent, and their children Jacob, Leah, and Anna. He is also survived by two brothers and their wives, Bill and Ann Brooks, and Bob and Jan Brooks.

John was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Jerry.

Memorials may be directed to the Orange City Area Home Health and Hospice, for family meal tickets, and the Salvation Army in Quincy.
