Funeral services were held at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home for Mrs. Stella Hastings, on Wednesday afternoon conducted by Reverend A.F. Schuldt, pastor of the Methodist Church at Emmetsberg. Reverend Schuldt made his home with Reverend and Mrs. H.K. Hastings while he was here. Interment was made beside the resting place of her husband.

Stella Renshaw was born at National, Iowa on October 15, 1860 and as a young girl moved to this locality with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.L. Renshaw. She taught here in rural schools and was married to Reverend Holman K. Hastings on June 28, 1900 by Bishop W.S. Lewis and served with her husband as a faithful pastor’s wife. They returned to Rock Valley to make their home in 1911 after Reverend Hastings had sustained an injury to his chest. Here Dr. Hastings passed away August 20, 1923. She continued her residence here up to about three years ago, when she moved to Waterloo, Iowa, to be with her brother, Carrol Renshaw, who was left a widower. Mrs. Hastings taught a Sunday School Class here for many years and also worked in the Epworth League.

She is survived by her two brothers: Herbert Renshaw of Inwood and Dr. Carrol Renshaw of Waterloo, besides nieces and nephews and her many sorrowing friends.
