Mrs. Mathias "Matt" Haupert died Saturday, September 27, at her home near Granville, after an illness of several years duration. Funeral services, conducted at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Granville on Tuesday, by the Reverends J.A. Gerlemann and L. Schoeppner.

Mrs. Mary Ann Haupert is survived by her husband and ten children, as follows: Laurence Haupert of Remsen; Mrs. Fay Gaspar of Sheldon; Mrs. William Stahlman of Missouri; Mrs. Ben Stabiman of Primghar; Mary, Clarinda and Saverna residing at home; Mrs. Chris Portz, Nick Haupert, Jake Haupert, all residing on farms near Granville. She is also survived by her two sisters and two brothers: Mrs. Nic Lux of Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, Mrs. A. Kuester, Frank Hemmen, both of Granville, and William Hemmen of Dell Rapids, South Dakota.

The beloved wife and mother was born at Sandweiler, in the small duchy of Luxemburg, Europe, March 6, 1876, coming to the United States with her parents when six years of age. She was a devoted member of her church and a member of the Catholic Mothers’ Society.

A host of friends and relatives from her own and nearby parishes attended the funeral services Tuesday.

Among those from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Nick Lax and daughter, Sleepy Eye, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. William Hemmen and family, Dell Rapids, South Dakota; Mrs. Mike Ernster and son John, Slaseton, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Klein, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bank, Mr. and Mrs. Nick Krebs, Adrian, Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Pete Krier and son John, Mrs. Anna Jarding and son Clarence, Emery, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. L. Lunders, Salem, South Dakota; Henry Krantz, daughter Sophia and son Vincent, Howard, South Dakota; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Riren, Iona, Minnesota.

Note: Her parents were Mathias and Elizabeth (Steines) Hemmen.
