Mrs. Hendrika Hoffs died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. W. Mak, Rock Rapids, Iowa, on Sunday March 9th of diabetes, aged 75 years, 1 month and 26 days. Deceas[sic] was born in the province of Gelderland, Netherlands, on Jan. 11, 1838. She came to the United States in 1868 and to Sioux county in 1879. She was the mother of eleven children, five of whom survive. The body was brought to Newkirk for interment and the funeral services were held there on Wednesday and were conducted by Rev. R. D. Douwstra. The surviving children are: H. A. Hoffs and Mrs. M. Jansma of Hospers, Mrs. J. W. Mak of Rock Rapids, Mrs. R. S. Sipma of Inwood and Mrs. J. R. Forema of Carnes.

In the same issue, the Hospers column is found: John Mak of Rock Rapids was here Wednesday to attend the Mrs. Hoff funeral. Mr. Mak manages the Lyon county experimental farm and is a very successful manager.
