Sioux County Herald of Feb 13, 1901

About two weeks ago Mr. Peter Veenstra (Feenstra) was taken sick with lung fever, and a few days later his wife was taken down with the same disease. In both instances the disease soon took a dangerous stage, and but slight hopes were entertained for the recovery of either of its victims. Veenstra died last Thursday morning, and his wife lived until Monday morning of this week, when she passed away.

The funeral of Mr. Veenstra was held from the Christian Reformed church last Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Smithers of Sioux Center, while the funeral of Mrs. Veenstra occurred yesterday afternoon from the same church. Both were Christian people, about sixty years of age, and much
sympathy is felt for the bereaved relatives.

Note: (his wife in probate was Sjebrigge or so) Found indication in the 1900 census that his ‘second’ wife was a Herrema as there was a step son by the name of Martn H. Herren age 12. Pieter Dirk Feenstra was born 20 Apr 1838 Achlum Friesland and died Feb 7, 1901 Orange City IA. He was the son of Dirk Wisses Feenstra and Sjoerdrje Pieters Robyn.

Pieter Dirk Feenstra’s first wife was Grietje ‘Gertie’ Jogchums Postma 1841-1895.
An ancestry.com report has his second wife as Sieberje Pieters Smits 1849-1901 she had been married to Pieter Marten Herrema 1848-1891. Some of the children from his first marriage were – Joukje Feenstra DeJong VanEngen 1868-1950, Dick Derk Feenstra 1869-1952, Dena Feenstra 1870-1936, Soerdje Feentra 1871-1942.
