Joy Langstraat, age 84, of Sibley, Iowa, passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Bickford Cottage Memory Care in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, March 15, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley, Iowa. Rev. Brad Langstraat officiating.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 15, from 9:30 A.M. to 10:45 A.M. prior to the service at Andringa Funeral Home in Sibley.

Private Family Graveside Service will be Wednesday, March 15, at 1:30 P.M. at Holman Township Cemetery in Sibley.

Joy Langstraat was born on November 17, 1932 in Middleburg, Iowa, the daughter of John and Edith (Wallinga) Bomgaars. She went to a country school near Middleburg until the 8th grade. She attended Sioux Center High School, graduating in 1950. Joy went to a college in LeMars for two summers and then attended Northwestern College Teachers School from 1950 to 1951. She taught in a country school from 1951 to 1952.
She was united in marriage to Howard Langstraat at the Middleburg Reformed Church on June 3, 1952. They lived in Orange City, Iowa before moving to a farm near Middleburg. From 1955 to 1962 they lived on Howard’s family farm in Newkirk, Iowa. They moved to Sibley, Iowa and Joy helped Howard at Northside Sales Company as a secretary. She also worked as a teacher’s aide at the Sibley school for 13 years. Howard passed away in 2002. They enjoyed 49 years of marriage.
Joy was an active member of the First Reformed Church in Sibley. She liked playing the piano, quilting, and working with the children and high schoolers in church.
She enjoyed baking, cooking, and vacationing with her husband and family. She loved being around her grandkids.
Even though Joy had Alzheimer’s she still could share the love of the Lord to people around her. She would sing “Jesus Loves Me” and “It Is Well with My Soul” with her daughter, Brenda, and say “I Love You” to her children, until she passed away on Monday, March 13, 2017 at Bickford Cottage Memory Care in Sioux City, Iowa.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children, Jerry and Joy Langstraat of Edgerton, MN, Bradley and Karla Langstraat of Jenison, MI, Brenda and Robert Janisch of Sioux Center, IA; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Langstraat; one daughter, Beth Herrick; and one granddaughter, Jessica Herrick.
