Lawrence J. Frederes, 88, of Alton died Friday, November 17, 2000, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars. Funeral services were held on Monday, November 20 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Alton. Reverend James Tigges officiated. Burial was at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Alton, under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home, Remsen.

Lawrence was born May 12, 1912, at rural Remsen, the son of Theodore and Christina (Lampert) Frederes. He was raised in the Remsen area. Lawrence married Stella Streff on September 12, 1938, at Alton. They made their home near Alton where he raised cattle and was also in partnership with Ervin Herrig in a truck-partnership business until 1949, when they moved to a ranch near Draper, South Dakota. In 1951 they moved into Alton where Lawrence was employed as a feed salesman for Alton Premium Feed. He had been a resident of Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars since June of 1998.

Mr. Frederes was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of Alton, Knights of Columbus and Luxembourg Brotherhood of America, both of Remsen.

Survivors include his wife Stella of Alton; two daughters and their husbands, Lois and Terry Bauler of Le Mars and Rita and Gary Stewart of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; three sons and their wives, Elmer and Sue of Alton, Wayne and Mary of Perry and Lowell and Sherry of Omaha, Nebraska; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. George (Callista) Frederes of Remsen and Mrs. Tony (Florence) Frederes of Orange City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Leon in childhood; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Lowell (Debbie) Frederes; four brothers, George, Tony, Arnold, and Roman; and a sister, Mrs. Clifford (Loretta) Owens.
