Kenneth Peters, age 82, of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Memorial Services will be Thursday, March 2, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. Luke Wynja and Rev. John Vermeer officiating.

Graveside Services will be Thursday, March 2, at 9:30 A.M. at East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon with Military Honors by American Legion Post 145, Sheldon.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 1, from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Home Sheldon Funeral Service in Sheldon.

Kenneth Glenn Peters was born on February 13, 1935 in Sheldon, Iowa. He was the son of Gerrit and Anna (DeVries) Peters. He lived his youth in Sheldon and attended Sheldon Christian Grade School and Western Christian High School in Hull where he graduated. In 1954, Ken enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1956.
He was united in marriage to Christine Vreeman of Sheldon on September 30, 1955 in Sheldon. While Ken was in the service, they lived in Detroit, Michigan for one year. After returning from the service, Ken and Chris farmed near Ritter and Matlock, Iowa for 24 years. They moved to Sheldon, where they owned and operated Sheldon Camper Sales for many years.
Ken was an active member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon, serving as an elder and deacon, and in many other roles. Ken and Chris were the custodians for 21 years.
Ken enjoyed fishing and camping with the family. He loved gardening and giving his produce away. He also enjoyed woodcarving and carved a nativity set for each of his girls and various items for his boys.
During retirement, Ken and Chris enjoyed summers at Spirit Lake, Iowa and winters in Alamo, Texas. Ken enjoyed visiting with family and friends. His legacy is his faith and family.
He passed away on Sunday, February 26, 2017 at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 61 years, Christine Peters of Sheldon, IA; his children, Sherris and Tim Moerman of Waukee, IA, Gary and Linda Peters of Denver, CO, Robert and Heather Peters of Grand Rapids, MI, Karen and Mike Christians of Sheldon, IA; 16 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Carol Bousema of Sheldon, IA.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Roy Bousema.
