Frank E. Wood Died Suddenly

Frank E. Wood, long time resident of Hawarden and Sioux county, passed away suddenly at his home in Hawarden Monday night from a heart attack. He had apparently been in splendid health of late and was in fine spirits Monday and before retiring Monday night. A short time after he retired, however, he was taken violently ill. Mrs. Wood attempted to make him more comfortable in bed by propping him up on pillows and then summoned assistance but within twenty minutes after the first sign of illness his life slipped away.
Funeral services will be held at the Methodist church in Hawarden at 2:30 this afternoon with the pastor, Rev. Robert F. Chapler, in charge. Interment will be in the family lot in Grace Hill cemetery.
Frank Eugene Wood was born July 7, 1863, at Kirkland, Ill., and died In Hawarden December 20, 1937, at the age of 74 years, 5 months and 13 days. When he was about 3 months old his parents moved to Rudd, Iowa and in 1890 they came to Sioux county where he has since resided.
He was united in marriage with Margaret C. Aurner at Ireton on Dec. 16, 1891. They went to housekeeping on a farm in Washington township where they lived until 1900 at which time they came to make their home in Hawarden. Two children were born to them, a daughter, Catherine, and a son, Eugene, both dying in infancy. After moving to Hawarden Mr. Wood engaged in the carpenter trade. In addition to his regular carpenter work he build nine different houses for himself [rest of line unreadable] church in Hawarden in 1904 and remained a true and faithful member until his death. He requested that the text for his funeral sermon be selected from the first three verses of the 40th Psalm, as it was under this text that he was first converted.
Frank wood was a friend of man. He was never known to speak harshly of anyone. While he suffered ill health for a great many years he still maintained his faith in Christ and during the last few years of his life his heath improved to the extent that he was able to enjoy life more fully and spend some little time at his trade. He was industrious and an excellent workman, taking great pride in his work at all times. He was an excellent citizen, honest and upright in all his dealings with his fellow men.
In addition to his wife, he leaves to mourn his passing two brothers, Delbert Wood of Seattle, Wash., and Dan Wood of Huron, S. D., besides a host of friends.
