DEATH OF PIONEER RESIDENT --MRS. DELL EDWARDS PASSED AWAY SATURDAY AT LE MARS

Mrs. Dell Edwards, a resident of Sioux and Plymouth counties since early girlhood, died at her home in Le Mars early Saturday morning, following an illness of four weeks, according to the Le Mars Sentinel. She had been in failing health for some years.

She was the widow of John Edwards, former well known Ireton and Le Mars business man. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Griffith, who migrated from Kentucky in the early days to Wisconsin and from there to Sioux County, being among the early pioneers here.

Dell Griffith was born in Wisconsin, November 29, 1867, and when a girl came with her parents to Sioux County, locating where Ireton was later built. She was united in marriage with John Edwards in Calliope February 21, 1884, and they lived in Sioux County and in Ireton until moving to Le Mars about twenty years ago. Three children were born to them. One son, James H. Edwards, died November 9, 1917. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Bailey, her son, Jesse Edwards, and three sisters and a brother, her twin sister, Mrs. Belle Osterday of Hawarden, Mrs. W.L. Kersey of Sioux City, Mrs. Charles DeVall of Grand Junction, Colorado, and Albert Griffith of Ireton. There are three grandchildren, Marion Edwards of Sioux City, Mrs. Vance Trafford and Jack Edwards of Le Mars.

Mrs. Edwards enjoyed a wide acquaintance among the older settlers of both Sioux and Plymouth Counties and was esteemed and respected by all who knew her.

The funeral was held from the residence in Le Mars Monday afternoon, conducted by Dr. J.J. DePree, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Le Mars. Interment was made in the Le Mars Cemetery.
