Jerome "Tony" Bunkers, 56, Granville, died Thursday in an Orange City hospital after suffering a heart attack. Services were Saturday in St. Joseph Catholic Church at Granville. The Rev. Edward Hoffmann officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery. The Fisch Funeral Home of Remsen was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Bunkers was born Nov. 16,1921, at Mahnomen, Minn. When still a youth, he came to the Granville area and made his home with the Vincent O'Connor family until he was married. He married Verna Klein June 14,1949 at Granville. He served as acting postmaster from Aug. 16, 1947, to May 1, 1949, and as postmaster from then until Jan. 15, 1950. He was a rural mail carrier from then until retirement July 5, 1975.

Mr. Bunkers served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Wasmer Post 222, American Legion, at LeMars; the Disabled American Veterans; the Veterans of Foreign Wars post at Granville; the National Rural Letter Carriers Association and! the National Association of Retired Federal Employee. He also coached Little League baseball at Granville for many years. He was a long time member of the St Joseph's men s choir.

Survivors include the widow; three sons, Dennis of Cedar Falls, Dale and Dan, both at home; two daughters, Miss Suzanne of Madison, Wis., and Mrs. Dan (Linda) Kennedy of Polk City; two brothers, Larry and Raymond, both of Worthington, Minn., and two sisters, Mrs. Bernice Feller of Stillwater, Minn., and Mrs. Clarence (Viola) Thorman of Bloomington, Minn.
