Mrs. Luthera (Eldredge) Thornburg passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 1942 in a Los Angeles, California Hospital after an illness of several years duration.

Luthera Linda Eldredge was born October 7, 1888 at Seney, Iowa, a daughter of I.E. Eldredge. She came to Rock Valley with her parents when a small girl of nine years in 1897. She graduated from the Rock Valley High School and Morningside College in Sioux City.

She united with the Methodist Church in Rock Valley on April 12, 1903. She was married to Boyd Lee Thornburg in 1913. She left Rock Valley for California in December 1941in hopes the moderate climate of that state would improve her health. She entered the hospital on January 8 where she passed away at the age of 53 years, 7 months, and 29 days.

The deceased was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, having served in that organization as Worthy Matron and in other offices and had served as Regent of the Daughters of the American Revolution at Rock Rapids, having been a member of that organization for many years. She was an active member of Rock Valley Woman’s Club and a faithful member of the Methodist Church.

Funeral services were held here Monday afternoon at the Methodist Church, conducted by the pastor, the Reverend L.A. Rachuy, and burial was at Valley View Cemetery.

She leaves to mourn her passing her aged father I.E. Eldredge, her foster mother, Mary Eldredge; one brother, Rollin; her son, Robert Lee Thornburg of the United States Marines. She leaves other more distant relatives and many friends who regret her passing.
