LAST RITES ARE HELD FOR ESTEEMED CHATSWORTH WOMAN ON TUESDAY

Mrs. Fred Gruennagel, a widely known and highly esteemed resident of western Plymouth and Sioux Counties for nearly fifty years, passed away at her home in Chatsworth, Iowa, Saturday evening, July 11, 1936 at 8:15 o’clock. She was suddenly seized with a stroke Saturday afternoon and remained uncurious until the final summons came that evening. She had attained the ripe age of 85 years, 1 month, and 29 days.

Agathe Wiands Gruennagel was born May 12, 1851, in Ostfriesland, Germany, where she was also baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. She came to America in 1888, coming directly to the home of her brother, Henry Braaks, at Ireton, Iowa. There she was joined in holy wedlock with Fred Gruennagel, November 23, 1888. This union was blessed with three children--one son and two daughters. They farmed near Ireton for five years and then moved to a farm near Hawarden, also residing there five years. In 1900 they moved to the neighborhood of Akron and lived here until 1918, when they retired from farming and moved to Chatsworth, which has since remained their home. Mrs. Gruennagel was a kind and devoted wife and mother, a helpful and sympathetic neighbor and friend, whose long life was filled with good and useful deeds, which endeared her to a wide circle of friends, who join in extending sympathy to the bereaved relatives.

Besides her husband, she is survived by two daughters and one son, Mrs. Lina Schuster, of Akron; Mrs. Etta Moehlmann, of Hawarden, and Herman Gruennagel, of Mapleton, Iowa; also three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at St. Mathew Lutheran Church in Chatsworth, of which she was a faithful member, and was conducted by the pastor, Reverend Fred A. Meske. The pallbearers were Gerd Ludwigs, William Ludwigs, Henry Schroeder, D.K. Bennett, Ray Webb and Elert Wilken. Interment was in the Cemetery at Ireton.
