Gerrit is the son of Klaas Gerrits Groeneveld & Antje "Anna" (Jepma) Groeneveld Ypma.
Gerrit married Antje "Anna" Jepma on April 17, 1889 in Rock Valley, Iowa. They are the parents of Winifred "Winnie", Clarence Gerrit "Klaas", Jacob, Annie Winnie & Henry.
He was buried at Hope Cemetery, Hull, Sioux County, Iowa.
