Remsen Enterprise: Nic DeVries is no more. Death came to him after a short illness in his lodging in Lemke's Farmer's Hotel, Tuesday, April 2, at about 4 a. m., of pneumonia. DeVries was born in Zandam, Holland, about 42 years ago. His father- was wealthy lumber dealer and Nic received a very good school education. He came to the United States about seventeen years ago, became, a business man in Orange City and later in Alton. As a business man he was not successful and rather a spendthrift In later years he made his home in and around Remsen, working here and there as a day laborer, earning scarcely enough to keep him above, water. He was not a bad man and everybody got along with him nicely Rev. Hoeppner officiated at his funeral which took place from the Lutheran church Wednesday morning and a number of citizens attended. May he rest in peace.

Note:
Klaas is a nick name for Nicolas, or Nicholas in the Netherlands. He evidently was not married or didn’t have a family either.

Klaas was the son of Remmert deVries and wife Jacoba Van Dieren. Died 2 April 1901. Burial was April 3, 1901 Remsen Lutheran cemetery.

Found the marriage of Remmert De Vries 25 Zaandam Overijssel Neth. and Jacoba Martina Rebecca van Dieren born Kampen age 18. Remmerts, father was Klaas de Vries and Aafe de Caprentier. they were married at Ijsselmuiden , Overijssel Neth on 25 July 1858, but for the life of me I can't find the birth of Klaas 21 June 1857 at Zaandam
