Death Calls Mrs. Zwaan

Mrs. Klaas Zwaan passed away Monday morning at 5:15 o'clock of pneumonia at her home in Rock Valley. Her husband and four children were at the bedside when the end came. The subject of this sketch was born in the Netherlands on February 7, 1857, where she grew to womanhood. In January, 1884, she was united in marriage to K. Zwaan. To this union were born five children, one son, Case, and four daughter, Greta, Mrs. John Vander Poel of Rock Valley; Fannie, Mrs. J. C. Boote of Worthington, Minn.; Sadie, Mrs. Tom Ver Doorn of Rock Valley, and one daughter died in childhood soon after the family came to America.
Mrs. Zwaan came to this country with her husband and family on March 5, 1908, coming directly to Sioux county and locating on a farm in the vicinity of Hudson. Later they moved to a small place in the southeast part of Rock Valley and later occupied their present location on East First street.
Will Zwaan, who passed away at Plainfield, N. J., was a stepson of the deceased and one stepdaughter resides in the Netherlands. She leaves her husband, four children and nine grandchildren to mourn her passing, besides a host of neighbors and friends.
A quiet, loving wife and mother and a splendid neighbor, Mrs. Zwaan will be greatly missed. Pending funeral arrangements, the body is at the Vander Ploeg funeral parlor as this is written.
