Mrs. Jake Gorzeman, nee Elizabeth Vande Berg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Vande Berg, was born February 11, 1880 on a farm six miles south of Hull. On March 8, 1901 she was united in marriage to Mr. Jake Gorzeman who preceded her in death on March 29 1945. The following feel the loss of a devoted mother: Mina, Mrs. Jerry Dykstra of Sheldon; Barbara, Mrs. John De Haan of Orange City; Mrs. Alice Wolfswinkle of Sibley; John Gorzeman; Marie, Mrs. William Hoekstra; Leonard Gorzeman of Hull; Elizabeth, Mrs. John Kershergen of Rock Valley. She had 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Ralph Vande Berg of Sioux Center and John Vande Berg of Hull, and three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Van Roekel of Sioux Center, Gertie, Mrs. John De Roos of Rock Rapids and Mina, Mrs. Andrew De Roos of San Leandra, California are also left to mourn her departure.

Two brothers preceded her in death, Ben Vande Berg of Sioux Center, Gerrit Vande Berg of Orange City and one sister, Mrs. Alice Rozebroom of Sioux Center.

Mrs. Elizabeth Gorzeman had a stroke at her home December 19 and on December 20 was taken to the Sioux Center Hospital at which place she died December 20th, 1952.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 23, at the home and the First Reformed Church. Services were in charge of her pastor, Reverend William C. De Jong. Mrs. Gorzeman had chosen for her text John 14:2 and also the following songs, “We Are Going Down the Valley,” and “What A Friend We Have in Jesus.”

Pallbearers were W. Postma, G. De Leeuw, B. Bonestroo, B. Wolfs, Wolfwinkle, B. Moss and J. Vande Berry, Jr.
