John Zorgdrager Buried Here

News reached here concerning the death of Mr. John Zorgdrager of Archer who was a former resident here. In 1881 he arrived in Sheldon with his family from the Netherlands and were the first family to arrive in Sheldon, later moving to a farm near Hospers just north of the Henry Stoll family.
Here they resided for several years and many here will remember them. Their next move was to Hull and later they made their home at Archer where Mr. Zorgdrager was engaged in the mercantile business later becoming a dormant partner. Afterwards retiring entirely from the business.
The deceased leaves five daughters and two sons besides his wife to mourn his departure. They are Mrs. H. H Kleinheksel and Mrs. Jake Duimstra both ladies being of Archer, Mrs. Mae Maddox of Butte Mont., Mrs. G. Vander Schoor and Mrs. Ed Brunsting of Hawarden; Jess Zorgdrager of Boulder Col. and Harry of Freeman S. D. The funeral services were held at Archer at 1:30 from the First Ref. church, Rev. Bemis officiating and interment was made in the cemetery east of Hospers. The relatives have our heartfelt sympathy
