Chad Godfrey, 80, a well known former Le Mars barber, died Tuesday morning Aug. 29, 1972 at the Orange City Municipal Hospital. He had been hospitalized four days.

Mr. Godfrey was born October 30, 1891, at Madrid to Edward and Martha (Houser) Godfrey. He moved from Le Mars to Alton about three years ago. He was preceded in death by his first wife 10 years ago. He was a longtime Le Mars barber.

He became a member of Giblem Masonic Lodge in Le Mars in November 1968. A Masonic service was held Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Van Etten Funeral Home in Orange City.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Presbyterian Church in Alton. Reverend Ralph E. Nelson, pastor of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars, officiated. Burial was in the Nassau Township Cemetery, Alton, under the direction of the Van Etten Funeral Home.

Survivors are his wife, the former Irma Kempers, Alton; a daughter, Mrs. Marcella Seward, Clinton; a grandson, Edward Seward, Clinton and a sister, Mrs. Lily Stover, Rochester, Minnesota.

Pallbearers were Don Curry, Andrew Siebens and W.G. Anderson, all of Le Mars, and Scott Youngie, Dr. Jack Schmidt and Arthur Paape.
