MRS. EMIL GLODEN, HOSPERS MOTHER, GONE, FUNERAL TUESDAY AT HOSPERS

Mrs. Emil Gloden, passed away Saturday from heart trouble at her home a mile south of Hospers. She would have been 65 years of age in February.

Mary Gloden was born February 17, 1867,the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Masuen of Le Mars, Iowa. She grew to young womanhood in this section, at that time a vast expanse of unbroken prairie and was united in marriage to Emil Gloden at St. Joseph’s Church at Le Mars with Father Meis officiating, on February 7, 1902.

Since that time she had made her home with her husband and family on the farm near Alton, later moving to Granville until the last 11 years when they moved to the farm a mile south of Hospers. Eleven children were born to them, but one died at the age of six months, ten children and her life partner surviving the beloved wife and mother.

The four sons are John, Alphonse, Frank and Lawrence, all of Hospers; and the daughters: Margaret, now Mrs. John Glesener of Alton; Cecilia, Mrs. Leo Reistoffer of Granville; Josephine, Mrs. Nick Reuter; Katherine, Mrs. Matt Schmit; Matilda, Mrs. Clem Schmit; Susan, Mrs. Jake Walgenbach; all of the last named reside near Hospers.

Two brothers and two sisters as follows, also survive; Mrs. Matt Gloden of Lansing, Michigan; Mrs. Joe Remacle of Cottonwood, Idaho; Mike Masuen of Granville, Iowa, and John Masuen of Clinton, Iowa. Eighteen grandchildren survive.

Funeral services were held at Saint Anthony’s Church at Hospers on Tuesday with Reverend Father Thoenmissen officiating. The funeral being one of the largest ever held at Hospers with friends from many surrounding towns present; Le Mars, Alton, Remsen, Granville and Sheldon being among the communities represented.

Relatives from a distance attending the services were as follows: Mrs. Mike Masuen and son Wilfred of Granville; Mrs. Katherine Masuen of Le Mars; Mr. and Mrs. Chas Masuen of Oyens; Mr. and Mrs. Pat Hughes, Mrs. Lucy Lloyd, Miss Annie Kieffer, all of Remsen; Mike Remicle and son Phillip and daughter Mary of Howard, South Dakota and many others.
