MRS. JOHN BRANDS
Mrs. John Brands, 65, a longtime Rock Valley resident, died unexpectedly at her home on January 14. The former Gertie Otten, was born May 27, 1902, in the Netherlands. She married February 23, 1922,at Rock Valley and lived on a farm in the Rock Valley area until retiring in 1961 when she moved to town.

Funeral services were held on January 18 at the First Christian Reformed church with the Rev. Leonard Van Drunen officiating. Burial was in the Valley View Cemetery.

Survivors include the widower; four sons, Gerrit J . , Melvin and Albert, all of Rock Valley, and William of Hull; a brother, Melis Otten of Kilduff, la., a brother and sister in the Netherlands and 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son and a grandchild.
