IRETON, IOWA~Ada Barents, 96 of Ireton, died Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the Artesia Christian Home in Artesia, California.
   Services will be 10:30 AM Monday, January 16, 2017 at the First Reformed Church in Ireton. Burial will be at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Douglas Van Aartsen officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, January 15 with the family present from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Porter Funeral Home in Ireton. Condolences may be sent to www.porterfuneralhomes.com.
   Ada (Ten Napel) Barents was born August 10, 1920 in rural Ireton, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Dena (Noteboom) Ten Napel. She married Julius Barents December 12, 1943 in Winnebago, Nebraska. The couple lived in Ireton where they partnered with Pete and Priscilla Lockhorst and opened a Gamble Hardware Store which later switched to the Cottor and Company True Value Store after they bought out the partnership in 1971.
After retiring from the hardware store, Julius and Ada spent their winters in Southern California visiting family and friends. Staying active in the Ireton Reformed Church with many organizations.
   After the death of “Butch” in August 1998, she continued living in Ireton and spending more time in California. During her summer months, she donated thousands of hours at the Hope Haven Center in Ireton, sewing lap blankets to accompany the assembled wheelchairs. Sewing and crocheting brought her much joy along with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
   Survivors include a son, Larry and his wife Kay of Bellflower, California and a daughter, Beverly and her husband Douglas Finch of La Mirada, California; four grandchildren, Shane (Danielle) Finch, Brandon (Jessica) Barents, Landon (Rachel) Finch, and Jennie (Casey) Finch-Daigle; 8 great-grandchildren; and one sister-in-law, Marie Walraven of Hills, Minnesota.
   Ada was preceded in death by her husband, Butch; four brothers, Peter, Harm, Marion and Ed Ten Napel; and 2 sisters, Nellie Heusinkveld and Frances Mulder; also an infant daughter.
