Sioux County Herald of Aug 28, 1879

Bowen – Saturday Aug 16th at the at the residence, of her parents. A. and N. J, Harrnoun, Olive Bowen, wife of Henry Bowen, of consumption, aged twenty-six years, four months, and two days.

This deceased was born in Sparta. Monroe County, Wis., April 14, 1852, where she spent her early childhood, removing from there to Kansas with her parents, and at the age of ten years to Aledo, Mercer county. IL. Being the youngest of four children, it was not surprising that she became the pet of the household. With a loving and affectionate disposition, she seemed to endear herself to the young and old. She was truly a ray of sunshine in the house, imparting cheer to the hearts of all with whom she associated.

At the age of eighteen she made a public profession of religion, receiving the ordinance, of baptism at the hands of the Rev. Mr. Zook, then pastor of the regular Baptist Church in that place. The September following she removed with her parents to Sioux county, ten miles from Lemars.

Notwithstanding her strong attachment to her early home and the many friends of her youth, she cheerfully gave all up for the home of the wild prairie of the Northwest, cheering and comforting
the hearts of her parents by her willing hands and warm heart.

November 24, 1872, she gave her heart and hand to Henry Bowen to whom she proved an affectionate wife and to her two little boys who survive her a loving mother. She was always happy, having kind word for all thus endearing herself to her many kind friends and neighbors, who will now deeply sympathize with the bereaved husband, parents, brothers and sisters. She bore her last, sickness with patience and fortitude, having a firm reliance on the Savior in whom she trusted, her faith not wavering ever to the last. As she felt that death, the King of terrors, was approaching, she calmly bade all her friends good bye charging them to put their trust in God and meet her in the better world where parting is no more.

We glean this from the Lemars Sentinel of last week.
