Birth: April 19, 1859
Death: August 21, 1935

Adolph F. Geselschap, for 45 years a useful and beloved citizen and business man of Orange City, passed away at his home at the county seat Sunday evening following an illness of several weeks' duration with anemia and complications. He had been failing rapidly the last few weeks.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and at 2:30 in the First Christian Reformed Church, with Reverend R. Bronkema officiating.

Adolph Frederick Geselschap was born in Overijssel, Netherlands, April 19, 1859. In the year 1885 he came to the United States, coming directly to Orange City. In 1888 he married Miss Clara De Groot. Five children were born to this union all of whom with their mother survive. The children are Lucia Van Reulder of Chandler, Minnesota; Rencella Kumerman of Sioux Center; William J. Geselschap of Grinnell; Miss Florence Geselschap and Thomas, Orange City. One brother, D. Herman Geselschap of the Netherlands, also survives.

Mr. Geselschap was a member of the Society of Faculties and a graduate in pharmacy of the famous University of Utrecht, Netherlands. For 45 years he had been in the drug business at Orange City. As an importer of tulip and other varieties of bulbs from the Netherlands he also bore a wide reputation. He was a lover of flowers and raised a number of varieties of flowers famous in the Netherlands every year.

Pallbearers were druggists from nearby towns who had known him as a brother for many years.

Interment was at the Orange City Cemetery. County seat business houses all remained closed during the services in respect to the member of the pioneer business man.

In the passing of Mr. Geselschap, the Democrat wishes to express its own feeling of deep loss and that of hundreds of others who knew him as a dear friend. His fund of good humor seemed limitless. He was strictly honest - a man of splendid integrity. His example is an inspiration to many, his memory revered, his many acts of kindness remembered. What more need be said?
