Nick Gergen, 63, of rural Granville, died Thursday as a result of a farm accident on his neighbor’s farm. He was killed when the coat he was wearing caught in the auger of a combine causing strangulation and suffocation. The accident occurred at 1:30 in the afternoon.

Services were at 10:30 A.M. Monday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Reverend Edward Hoffmann officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery under the direction of the Fisch Funeral Home at Remsen. The Rosary was recited at 5:00 P.M., 7:30 P.M. and 8:30 P.M. Sunday in Spalding Hall in Granville.

Mr. Gergen was born August 12, 1915 at Alton. He moved to Granville and farmed in the area. He married Bernadette Nilles June 14, 1939. She died October 28, 1965.

He married Bertille Budden, January 4, 1975, at Granville.

Survivors include the widow; two sons, Dale and Don, both of Granville; three daughters, Mrs. Ed (Kay) Harms of Wathena, Kansas, Mrs. Tony (Janet) Pottebaum of Alton and Mrs. Dale (Bonnie) Wigg of Sioux City; five stepsons, Terry Burden of Sheldon, and Tom, Jim, Jerry, and Gary, all of Granville; two brothers, Leo of Alton and Vince of Santa Barbra, California; two sisters, Mrs. Frank (Mary) Ruhland of Maurice, and Mrs. Leo (Bertha) Rodenbour of Struble; 19 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren.
