DEATH OF WORLD WAR VETERAN---CLARENCE P. GEHAN DIED SUDDENLY AT GLASGOW, MONTANA---WAS ABOUT 44 YEARS OLD AND SPENT HIS YOUTH IN HAWARDEN--LEAVES WIFE AND ONE DAUGHTER

Word was received here Wednesday morning of the death of Clarence P. Gehan of Sioux City, long time resident of this city and community, which occurred at Glasgow, Montana. Only a meager announcement of his death came in a message to his brother, William T. Gehan of Sioux Falls. It is presumed that his death occurred Tuesday night and was due to a hemorrhage although no particulars were given in the message. William Gehan and his brother, James A. Gehan of Rock Rapids, drove to Sioux City early Wednesday to inform Mrs. Clarence Gehan of her husbands death. William Gehan left from there for Montana to accompany the remains of his brother back for burial.

Clarence Gehan, third son of Mr. and Mrs. P.C. Gehan, early day Hawarden residents, was born in this city and would have been 44 years old October 17. His boyhood was spent in Hawarden and on the farm of his parents near Chatsworth. In May, 1917, shortly after the outbreak of the World War he enlisted as a private in Troop B of the South Dakota Cavalry at Sioux Falls and went to Camp Deming, New Mexico. This cavalry troop was later disbanded and he was transferred to the 136th Infantry in which he became a non-commissioned officer. He was later selected to attend Officers school and when he finished he was a Second Lieutenant of Infantry in August, 1918, after which he was stationed at Camp McArthur at Waco, Texas, where he remained on duty until his discharge after armistice.

Following the war he entered the employ of a Sioux City live stock commission firm and has continued in this work ever since as a cattle buyer. He was on a cattle buying trip to Montana at the time of his death.

A number of years ago he was united in marriage with Anne Dunn in Sioux City and besides his wife he is survived by one daughter, Dorothy. He also leaves his aged mother, Mrs. Mary E. Gehan of Sioux Falls; three brothers, Chas. Gehan of Waterloo, Iowa, James A. Gehan of Rock Rapids, and William T. Gehan of Sioux Falls; and two sisters, Mrs. Russell Walseth of Pierre, South Dakota and Miss Catherine Gehan of Sioux Falls.
