Former Rock Valley Resident Dies

William Van Sloten died Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Bellwood hospital. Bellflower, Calif., at the age of 71 years. He suffered from a series of heart attacks and was rushed by ambulance to the hospital. On Aug. 23 all of their children were present when Mr. and Mrs. Van Sloten celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Services were held Tuesday morning at the Third Christian Reformed church of Bellflower, Calif. Burial was in Rose Hills Memorial Park on Chapel Hill at Whittier, Los Angeles, Calif. Bearers were nephews: Donald De Graaff, Herman Olivier, Arnold Gort, Gerrit Tubergen, Herbert Heimstra and Richard Heimstra.

Mr. Van Sloten was born Dec. 31, 1885 in The Netherlands and came with his family to the United States at the age of seven years. They lived at Hull. In 1907 he was married to Clara Heimstra. To this union eight children were born. One child died in infancy. The Van Slotens farmed near Boyden and Hull and in 1927 they moved to a farm two miles east of Rock Valley. In 1946 they moved into Rock Valley. It was here that Mr. Van Sloten suffered his first coronary attack nine years ago. For the past few years they have been living in Bellflower, Calif.
Survivors include his widow; three sons, William, Jr. of Alameda. Calif., Robert of Artesia, Calif., and Donald of Norwalk Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. Francis Corwin of Bellflower, Calif. Mrs. Walter Groeneweg of Hull, Mrs. Otto B. Bajema of Rock Valley and Mrs. Arie Vanden Heuvel of Chino, Calif.; 24 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; two brothers. Lambert ol Hull and John of Doon; five sisters, Mrs. Henry Vander Sluis of Zillah. Wash., Mrs. John Humme of Hull, Mrs. Henry Mulder of Kimberley. Idaho, Mrs. Frank De Graaff of Rock Valley and Mrs. Josie Kuyper of Boyden.
