FRANK GARRETT DIED SUNDAY---FATHER OF SEVEN SUCCUMBS FOLLOWING AN OPERATION--WAS 51 YEARS OLD AND WAS LIFELONG RESIDENT OF THIS COMMUNITY--FUNERAL HELD WEDNESDAY

Frank Garrett, a life long resident of this community, passed away at 5 o’clock Sunday afternoon at the Hawarden Hospital following an operation for ruptured gastric ulcer. Mr. Garrett was picking corn when he was stricken last Wednesday and that evening was removed to the Hawarden hospital and an emergency operation performed in hopes of saving his life. He had been in failing health for the past two years.

Funeral services were held at 2:30Wednesday afternoon from the Ross Funeral Home with Reverend Robert H. Forrester of the Methodist Church in charge. Interment was made in Grace Hill Cemetery.

Frank Garrett was born on a farm near Ireton April 4, 1882, and so was 51 years, 6 months and 11 days old at the time of his death. His mother passed away when he was but nine years old and he was taken into the home of his brother, L.L. Garrett, where he grew to young manhood. He was united in marriage with Flossie Sparks in Hawarden and to this union eight children were born, one of whom preceded him in death. Mr. Garrett made his home in Hawarden for many years and was employed as section man by the North Western Railway Company for some time. Since the railroad work became slack and he was employed only part time he worked at common labor. He had made plans to farm next year and was to live on the farm of his brother, L.L. Garrett, Northeast of town. He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Flemming and Mrs. Eva Searle of Sioux City, and Evelyn, Lorraine, Elenore and Ernestina, at home. He also leaves two brothers L.L. Garrett of Hawarden and Dan Garrett of Montrose, South Dakota and two sisters Mrs. Vina Wheeler of Hawarden and Mrs. Cora Dolan of Silverton, Oregon.

His death comes as a severe blow to his younger children to whom he had been both mother and father for the past several years and sincere sympathy is extended to them in their hour of sorrow.
