From the Boyden Reporter, November 2, 1933:

MRS. J. B. LANDHUIS

Mrs. J. B. Landhuis, of whose death brief mention was made last week, was buried Saturday afternoon, following funeral services at the home at Boyden in charge of Rev. Brink, pastor of the Reformed church at Boyden, and in the First Reformed church in Hospers in charge of the local pastor, Rev. M. A. Stegeman and Rev. Brink. Interment was made in the Hospers cemetery west of town.

Dora Wierks was born in South Holland, Netherlands, on July 30, 1874, and died at her home in Boyden Thursday morning, October 26, 1933, aged 59 years, 2 months, and 26 days.

As a small child she came to America with her parents who settled in this vicinity. On November 25, 1897, Dora Wierks was married to J. B. Landhuis, in the First Reformed church. They made their home in Hospers until March, 1932, when they moved to Boyden. This past summer she suffered a stroke and has since been ailing. On Sunday, October 22, she suffered another stroke after which she was unable to move or talk and died four days later.

Mrs. Landhuis is survived by her husband and four children. They are Cornelia (Mrs. A. Renaud) of Union, Dorothy (Mrs. M. Vander Wal) of Pleasantville, and Lester and Howard of Sheldon. One daughter, Leona, died about twelve years ago. She is also survived by four grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. A. Roos of Austinville. The latter was unable to attend the funeral because of illness.

Besides the children and their families, who were all home to attend the funeral, there were also Mr. and Mrs. H. Landhuis and Mr. and Mrs. Art Ernesse of Leota, Minn., Mrs. McKibben of Union, the J. C. Landhuis family and Henry Landhuis of Rock Valley, Mr. and Mrs. C. Mulder of Blissfield, Michigan, and Mr. and Mrs. Jake Schaap of Austinville.

Mrs. Landhuis was a devoted wife and mother, and a kind and helpful neighbor. During their residence in Hospers she served for many years as president of the Ladies Aid of the local First Reformed church. The bereaved husband and children have the sympathy of their many friends in their bereavement.
