Alton Democrat of Dec 21, 1907

Henry Van Heukelom was injured in a corn-shredder November third and it necessitated the amputation of the left hand at the wrist. From some cause it never healed and the arm began to swell and gangrene set in and Friday of last week Doctor P. J, Huizenga attending physician called in consultation Doctors R. Huizenga and W . E . Blatherwick of Rook Valley and Doctor Warner of Sioux City and they unanimously agreed that the amputation of the arm was necessary as a means of prolonging his life with the chances against him for recovery. With the consent of his parents this was accordingly done but the physical strain was too great and on Saturday morning he died. The funeral services occurred Wednesday morning at eleven o'clock at Lebanon Christian Reformed church conducted by Rev, Henry Haarsma pastor, A large concourse of people was present to pay the last tribute of respect to the departed. The parents and relatives have the sympathy of the entire community in their sad affliction.
