Houston, TX: Mary Evelyn Rielly, 94, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2016 in Houston. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rock Valley, Iowa with Father Bruce Lawler officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery of Rock Valley. 
 
Evelyn Rielly was born December 21, 1921, in rural Rock Valley, Iowa the daughter of John F. and Mary B. Rielly. She worked many years for National Steel in Houston where she lived for over 50 years. She was a member of St. Jerome’s Parish in Houston where she was very involved. She was a volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul Society. She helped at St. Thomas University. She belonged to the Legion of Mary.
 
Family was important to her. For many years, every summer she drove from Houston to Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois to visit her family. She always sent birthday cards to all her nieces and nephews and later on she sent them to great nieces and nephews and was hardly ever late. All she wanted was a thank you note back.
 
She loved to travel especially after she retired. Evelyn travelled the world. Evelyn especially enjoyed her trip to the Holy Lands. She was a strong Republican. Evelyn would let you know who shouldn’t be in office. She watched the elections closely.
 
Evelyn is survived by her sister Magdalen Sprakel of Crofton, Nebraska. Two nieces Ann Krukowski of Lakeville, Minnesota, Mary Jean Zavadil of Fordyce, Nebraska. Two nephews, Roger and John Sprakel of Crofton, several nieces and nephews.
 
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, infant brother, brothers Robert in 1945 and Jack in 2013, brother in law Eugene Sprakel in 2003, sister in law Mary Ann Rielly in 2004. Nephews Bob Sprakel in 1993 and Tom Rielly in 2006.
