Cose, Irene (Mrs. De Orr V.) 1919-2016

Mrs. Irene Cose, age 97, of Orange City, formerly of Maurice, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2016, at the Orange City Area Health System.

There will be a private family service on Monday, December 12. Visitation will be after 3:00pm on Sunday, with the family present from 3:00pm to 5:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Irene Louise was born on November 11, 1919, near Denison, Iowa, the daughter of Otto and Louise (Christiansen) Evers. She was raised on a farm in Paradise Township, in Crawford County, near Denison, and graduated from the eighth grade at a country school.

On March 15, 1938, she married De Orr V. Cose in a small town in Missouri. They made their home in Webster City, Iowa. After De Orr was discharged from the United States Army, they moved to Maurice, where they became members of the First Reformed Church. De Orr passed away on August 23, 1968.

Mrs. Cose later moved to Orange City and eventually the Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Irene enjoyed gardening and baking and was always ready with a homemade treat.

Survivors include her two daughters, Sharon, and her husband, Russell Vande Steeg and Janice Woolcott, all of Orange City; a son and his wife, Jerry and June Cose, of Omaha, Nebraska; six grandchildren, James Vande Steeg, of Laguna Niguel, California; Jon Vande Steeg, and Judith Vande Steeg Allen, both of McKinney, Texas; Michelle Musch, of Plainfield, Illinois; Michael Nuss, of Hagerstown, Maryland; and Jennifer Gurciullo, of Omaha; fifteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Vera Evers, and a brother and his wife, Ray and DeLoris Evers.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Maurice Reformed Church flower fund and the Shrine Children’s Hospitals.
