Interment will be prior to the service at the Newkirk Cemetery. There will be a prayer service on Tuesday, at 10:00am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Monday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the funeral home.

Audley Wayne was born on March 22, 1941, in Hospers, the son of Raymond and Maggie (Hulst) Dolphin. In his early years, he was raised on a farm south of Hospers. In June of 1944, his family moved into Hospers after a tornado completely destroyed their farm. He graduated from the Hospers Public School and was proud to have been on a basketball team that made its way to the state tournament with a record of 28-1.

During and after high school, he worked at the Hospers Oil Company, always having a fondness for trucks. He would often ride along with truckers at night to Minnesota and Nebraska, keeping them company and driving for them.

In 1963, he was drafted into the United States Army, serving nineteen months in Germany, being discharged in 1965. He then returned to the Hospers Oil Company, which later became the Farmers Cooperative Oil Company, where he became manager, retiring in 2003.

In 1971, he married Adeline (Vander Maten) De Boer at Newkirk. They were members of the Newkirk Reformed Church, where he served as audio technician for seventeen years.

“Aud” and his wife enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in California and Florida with family and friends. They enjoyed Northwestern College Men’s basketball and would follow them to the NAIA Nationals at Branson, Missouri. They would often visit residents at nursing homes, always having a deep passion for these people. He was faithful in donating blood, but due to a bout with cancer, he had to quit after giving over ten gallons.

He was a loving husband and a kind person, always willing to help everyone. He will be dearly missed by his wife of 45 years, Adeline; two brothers and their wives, Donald and Elaine Dolphin, from Folson, California; Lloyd and Kay Dolphin, from Hospers; and his nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association.
