Died: November 15, 1941

Last week Tuesday afternoon our departed sister was laid to rest awaiting the great day of our Lord when we shall go forth victorious from our earthly resting place.

Mrs. Marie Christina Elsie Foege was born October 13, 1871, near Cadenberge, Hanover, Germany. On October 29 she was received into the fellowship of God through the sacrament of Baptism. She renewed her baptismal vows on the day of her Confirmation, April 22, 1886. Up until the time that she came to this country, she was at home with her parents.

In the spring of 1894 she came to the United States. On April 6, of the same year she was married to Mr. Hinrich Foege to whom she had already been engaged in Germany. The young couple made their home on the newly purchased farm located in Wheeler Township, Lyon Co. This was her home until the Lord called her.

The Lord blessed this union with ten children, five of whom preceded their mother into eternity. Sixteen years ago her husband also heard the Master’s call, “Come.”

During the early part of this year the deceased was afflicted with a heart ailment. She recovered during the summer somewhat. Since the beginning of October she has been seriously ill. Even as she had done during her whole life, so also now she sought comfort and strength from the Lord. In this the Lord did not fail her. She looked forward to the time when she could be with the Savior. On Saturday, November 15 the Lord in His mercy called her to the rest above. She thereby attained the age of 70 years, 1 month and 2 days.

Her departure is mourned by five children: Henry, pastor at Dows; William, pastor at Elderado; Mrs. Albert Fick, Luverne, Minnesota; Sophie, of Dows; Mrs. William Fick, on the home place; 13 grandchildren; one aunt, Mrs. Anna Winter of George, and many relatives.

Services were in charge of Reverend William Stripe, pastor of the Lutheran Church, and Reverend Guetzlaff of Sheldon.
