From the Rock Valley Bee, March 18, 1921:

THOS. VANDEN BOSCH DIED FRIDAY MORNING

After an illness of more than three months, Thomas Vanden Bosch died at his home in this city Friday morning [March 11], from brights disease. Mr. Vanden Bosch was taken sick on last Thanksgiving day, and has been confined to his bed since that time, although he had not been well for more than a year. A year ago he had a very sick spell but recovered to a certain extent.

Mr. VandenBosch was born in Zeeland, Mich., Sept. 22, 1864, and was fifty-six years, five months and nineteen days old. He spent his early years and grew to manhood in Michigan. He was united in marriage Dec. 10, 1890. Soon afterwards, he moved to South Dakota, and then to Rock Valley vicinity, where he and his family lived on a farm for the past twenty-six years. Two years ago, he retired from farming and removed to Rock Valley.

Mr. VandenBosch leaves his wife and eight children, John Vanden Bosch of Sanborn; Neal, of Doon; Lean, of Rock Valley; Peter, of Doon; Mrs. P. Weilenga, Sioux Center; and Nellie and Anna at home. He also leaves five brothers and four[??, see list below] sisters: L. Vanden Bosch of Rock Valley; H. VandenBosch, Edgerton, Minn; and Peter, John and Will, of Leota, Minn.; and Mrs. J. Noteboom of Corsica, SD., Mrs. Wyngarden, Zeeland, Mich., Mrs. J. Lubben, Mrs. G. Kalmine, Mrs. J. Bloom, of Leota, Minn., and Mrs. Rietema of Wright County, Iowa, and also his stepmother at Leota, Minn.

The deceased was a man who was highly respected by all who knew him. He was a kind and faithful husband and father and an obliging neighbor and a good citizen, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Funeral services were held at the home in Rock Valley at 1:30 o'clock and at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon at the Christian Reformed church, and the remains were taken to Valley View Cemetery.

From the Alton Democrat, March 19, 1921: Rock Valley news:

Tom (or Tomme) Vander[sic] Bosch, one of Rock Valley's esteemed citizens, who has been confined to his home for some time with Bright's disease, died at his home Friday morning, March 11th. The past month he suffered intense pain which nothing but death could alleviate as medicine could not stay the inroads of the disease.

The deceased was born at Ceylon, Michigan, Sept. 22, 1863, and was 56 years 5 months and 19 days old at the time of his passing. He grew to manhood in Michigan and in 1881 he came west and located in South Dakota. He formed the acquaintance of Miss Tilla Van Duym [and they were married] December 10, 1890, at New Holland, S. Dak., and as a result of this union seven children were born, four sons and three girls which still survive him.

In 1892 they moved to Sioux County and located in the vicinity of Rock Valley where he has continuously resided till his death. He was a good citizen, an excellent neighbor and a genial friend, a consistent Christian and a devout member of the Christian Reformed church. He leaves a companion and children, six sisters, namely, Mrs. Wyngaarden of Michigan, Mrs. Noteboom of Corsica, S.D., Mrs. Lubber, Mrs. Kallemyen, Mrs. Bloem and Mrs. Rietema of Edgerton, Minn., Lane Vander Bosch of Rock Valley, Peter, William and John Vander Bosch of Edgerton, Minn., and other relatives to mourn his departure.

Funeral srvices were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Christian Reformed church at 2 o'clock conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. Kuiper, in the presence of a large circle of friends, after which he was laid to rest in Valley View cemetery. The relatives have the sympathy of their many friends in their hour of supreme sorrow.
