Mrs. John Whalen died at the home of her son Tom at Larchwood Sunday morning. She was one of Sioux county's oldest settlers, who, with her husband, settled on a farm northwest of Perkins in the 70's, where she lived until a few months before her death. Her husband died over forty years ago leaving her with two pairs of twins, all boys. The younger pair followed the father in a few years. She was a noble character, but the hardships of pioneer life, with the care of the children, told upon her health and left her not able to enjoy life to its fullest measure. The funeral was held Wednesday morning in the Catholic church at Larchwood. To her two sons who survive her we extend our heartfelt sorrow.

The bereaved relatives have the sincere sympathy of this community in their sad hour of bereavement.
