Mrs. Betty Goeringer, age 90, of Hull, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at the Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon.

There will be a funeral service on Thursday, November 10, at 10:30am, at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Hull. The Rev. Aaron Deutsch will officiate. Interment will follow at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4:00pm on Wednesday, with the family present from 5:30pm to 7:30pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Betty Rebecka was born on February 11, 1926, at Hull, the daughter of Herman and Alma (Hagenah) Schuett. She was raised on a farm north of Hull, where she attended the Garfield Country School and graduated from the Hull High School. She was baptized on March 2, 1926, and confirmed on April 21, 1940.

On June 17, 1945, she married Walter Alfred William Goeringer at Hull. They built a house north of Hull, where they lived until February of 1963, when they moved that house into Hull. Over the years, she was employed at the Boyden Produce, the Hull and Sioux Center Creameries, the Boyden-Hull High School (in the kitchen and assorted other positions), the Pleasant Acres Care Center, and the Hull Bakery. She retired in 1988. In 2013, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society in George, and in October of 2015, they both moved to the Sanford Senior Care. “Walt” passed away on November 6, 2015, after seventy years of marriage and exactly one year before Betty.

Mrs. Goeringer was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she served as a circle leader, sang in the choir, and taught Bible School and Sunday School classes. She was also a 4-H leader.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, baking, reading, and collecting cookbooks.

Survivors include four children, Donna, and her husband, Roger Bechler, of Greeley, Colorado; Robert Goeringer, and his wife, Sandy, of Hull; Lorae Blum, of Fort Collins, Colorado; and David Goeringer, and his wife, Flora, of West Palm Beach, Florida; eight grandchildren, Michelle Wall, Sean (Jessi) Bechler, Shane (Dana) Bechler, Chad (Alana) Goeringer, Travis (Mindy) Goeringer, Ryan Blum, Kyle (Alan) Blum-Goodrich, and Stilling Horton; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a sister, Netty Woelber, of George; two sisters-in-law, Viola Goeringer, of Bellevue, Washington; and Viola Ackerman, of Bismark, North Dakota; and many nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Roger Goeringer; two brothers and their wives, Helmuth and Florence Schuett and Ed and Francis Schuett; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Woelber; Walter’s parents, the Rev. Edward and Emma Goeringer, and his twelve brothers and sisters and their spouses, Irma and William Hollander, Ernest and Lillian Goeringer, Amanda Goeringer, Elsie Goeringer, Maida and Herman Schumacher, Hilda and Fred Hollander, Ella and Albert Heinle, Irene Goeringer, Ewald and Esther Goeringer, Otto Goeringer, Edna Goeringer, and Arthur and Anna Mae Goeringer; and a brother-in-law, Theophile Ackerman.
